In order to get a better understanding of the performance of a range of new decking products that have recently entered the market a testing programme was undertaken at the University of Southern Queensland. A number of products were composite lattice panels compared in terms of flexural behaviour, creep and fire resistance. The results of this testing programme are summarized in this report. The test results show that there is a significant difference between the ultimate strength of the different deck planks. The best performance was obtained for the hardwood planks with an average failure stress of approximately 180MPa and a Modulus of Elasticity of approximately 22000MPa. The fibre composite deck plank had a failure stress of 93.78MPa and a Modulus of Elasticity of 11756 MPa. The flexural properties of the wood plastic deck are relatively low compared to the hardwood timber and fibre composites. The average failure stress of the wood plastic decks is 17.6MPa and the Modulus of Elasticity is 2669 MPa. The solid wood plastic deck plank exhibits the best flexural performance and the plank with the square holes the worst.Many polymers burn easily and exhibit poor fire behaviour. To compare the fire performance of the different polymer decking boards and the fibre composite board, each board was subjected to a flame of approximately 1000 degree Celsius for 1 minute (this simulates the effects of a fast moving grass fire).
