The nike air max 90 was first introduced in 1987 as legendary designer Tinker Hatfield's first ever creation to be sold by the company. Hatfield's "visible air" technology went on to set the standard for the next 25 years, but the Air Max 1 actually wasn't the first silhouette he pitched to Nike. In 1986, Nike rejected Tinker's initial designs for being too futuristic.

Almost three decades later those early ideas will finally see the light of day in the form of the new nike air max 2014. Hatfield's sketches have been updated with new technologies like hyperfuse and lightweight mesh, creating for a shoe that strikes a balance between '80s retro nostalgia and 2015 sleekness. The result is, like almost every Air Max Hatfield's designed, a shoe that is timelessly stylish.
